GCP's 10 cloud predictions for 2025

Google at their annual developer and tech leader event looked into the future by putting their experts together to predict what the cloud will look like in 2025. This post looks at the predictions and how they relate to the current state of the cloud.

10 predictions that will occur by end of 2025:

  1. Using simpler design will see 5x user adoption in the first two years.
  2. 4 out of 5 Enterprise Developers will use “curated” open source.
  3. 90% of security operations will be automated and managed as code.
  4. AI will be the primary driver for moving to a 4 day work week.
  5. 90% of data will be actionable in real time using ML.
  6. The barriers between transactional and analytical workloads will disappear.
  7. Over half of cloud infrastructure decisions will be automated based on usage patterns.
  8. 3 out of 4 developers will lead with sustainability as primary principle.
  9. Over half of all orgs using the cloud will freely switch their primary cloud provider due to multicloud capabilities.
  10. Over half of all business applications will be built by users who don’t identify as a professional developer.
